Deadwood - Unmatched cards in the players hand at score time.

Deal - To shuffle and distribute the required number of cards at at the beginning of each hand.

Discard - To remove an unwanted card from one's hand and place it o the discard pile.

Discard pile - The top of the face-up cards next to the stock pile.

Dealer - The designated player that deals the hand.

Draw - A card taken from the stock or discard pile.

Draw - Tie

Going Gin - Knocking with no unmatched cards in your hand is called Going Gin.

Knock - To end a hand by laying down cards arranged in melds and deadwood.

Lay off - To reduce points for the non-knocker by adding cards to the knocker's melds.

Melds - A match of three or more matching cards. The matching cards can be sets or runs.

Runs (Sequence) - Three or more cards of the same suit.

Sets (Group) - Three or 4 cards of the same rank.

Stock pile - The top of the face-down cards next the the discard pile.

Table limit (Table stake) - Negotiated before play to establish the maximum amount of money that can be won or lost.

Triangle - A hand with two cards of the same rank and a third card of one of two suits. This situation maximizes probability to draw a card to make a meld.

Unmatched cards - Any cards in a players hand that are not part of melds.

Upcard - After the dealer deals a 10 card hand to his opponent and himself, the 21st. card is the last card placed face up on the table and is the beginning of the discard pile.
